NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion fell to Marshall, 2-1, in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at the Bud Metheny Complex. Despite the loss, the Monarchs still won the series, 2-1.

With the series victory, Old Dominion (30-13, 14-7 C-USA) improves to 10-1 on the season in weekend series.

After four scoreless innings to open the game, Marshall (21-23, 9-12 C-USA) scored a run on a bases-loaded walk in the fifth to take a 1-0 lead. The Herd maintained that advantage until the eighth inning, when Will Morgan scored from third on an error.

However, the Thundering Herd answered in the top of the ninth, as Reynaldo Pastrana hit a one-out home run for the game-winning run.

Freshman John Wilson started on the mound for ODU. The lefty allowed one earned run on two hits in 4.1 innings of work, while striking out four. Craig Lopez came on to throw 2.2 frames of shutout relief, before Isaiah Nelson, who received the loss after allowing the Pastrana homer, pitched the final two frames.

Kyle Beam, who hit .600 for the series, led the Monarchs at the plate with a 2-for-3 day, while Morgan went 1-for-4 with a triple.

Marshall's Matt Reed earned the win, allowing one unearned run in four innings of relief.

The Monarchs return to action next weekend with a road series at UAB. First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on Friday.
