Arnold Leads White Team to 34-33 Comeback in Annual Spring Game

NORFOLK, Va. - Drayton Arnold tossed an eight-yard touchdown pass to Noah Ellison with 10 seconds left and the same two players connected for a two-point conversion to give the White Team a 34-33 victory over the Blue Team in the annual Old Dominion University Football spring game Saturday afternoon at Foreman Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium.

Playing for both teams in the second half, Arnold gave the Blue Team a 33-18 lead with a 19-yard touchdown pass to Marques Little with 10:43 left in the fourth quarter.

The White Team came back as Brandon Sinclair rushed for a five-yard touchdown and Arnold hit Jake Herslow for the two-point play to make the score 33-26 and set up the winning score.

The Blue Team jumped out to a 10-0 lead on a Chris Kirtley 35-yard field goal and a Jeremy Cox two-yard TD run.

An Arnold to Chase Cortez-Ervin 25-yard touchdown pass made the score 10-7, while Brad Davis chipped in a 25-yard field goal for the Blue Team, and then LaRussa added another score, this one a 62-yard strike to Travis Fulgham for a 21-7 lead. Kirtley added a 28-yard field goal to make the score 21-10 Blue Team at the half.

The Spring Game was a part of a busy day on campus for ODU athletics. The day began with the Big Blue 5K and was followed up by the 49th annual Toyota Charity Bowl. The day ended with the ODU Baseball team playing host to Louisiana Tech.
