NORFOLK, Va. -- For the third consecutive weekend, Old Dominion welcomes a Power 5 opponent to the Bud Metheny Complex, as the Monarchs host West Virginia this weekend for a three-game series.
Due to expected weather on Sunday, ODU and West Virginia will now play a doubleheader on Friday, March 10, beginning at 2 p.m. and then the final game of three-game series on Saturday, March 11, at 3 p.m.
All three games will be streamed live on CUSA.tv.
Old Dominion (9-3), who received votes in this week's NCBWA Top 30, is coming off of a midweek series split with James Madison. The Monarchs won game one on Tuesday, 9-8, before falling, 4-3, on Wednesday. At 7.8 runs per game, ODU ranks in the top 40 in the nation in scoring and has scored 10 or more runs on four occasions this season.
West Virginia (7-5) enters the weekend having lost three of their last four after suffering a 4-2 loss in 12 innings at Southeastern Louisiana on Wednesday. The Mountaineers won six straight games from Feb. 19 to March 2, including a pair of victories over reigning national champ Coastal Carolina at the Caravelle Resort Tournament. ODU will be the second Conference USA opponent for West Virginia this season, as WVU opened the season losing 2-of-3 at Charlotte.
The ODU starting rotation is projected to remain the same as last week, with Sam Sinnen getting the nod on Friday, followed by Adam Bainbridge and John Wilson. Shaun Wood, who is third on the team in average (.389) and tied for second in RBIs (11), is a West Virginia transfer and hit a total of 14 home runs during his three-year career with the Mountaineers.
West Virginia leads the all-time series, 6-2, and won 2-of-3 against ODU in Morgantown last season. All three games in last year's series were decided by one run and two went to extra innings.
