COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Old Dominion field hockey player Danielle Grega was selected for the U-21 U.S. Women's National Team tour roster that will travel to England from April 10-16, as was announced by USA Field Hockey this week.
"Playing in England with the United States U-21 team will be a great experience at a high level," Grega said. "The exposure to this level of play will help me improve individually and learn new things to bring back to the team here. I am really looking forward to this opportunity."
A rising senior from Kingston, Pennsylvania, Grega led the Lady Monarchs in scoring for the second consecutive season, tallying 15 points with seven goals and one assist in her junior campaign. She was also named First Team All-Big EAST and earned NFHCA All-South Region second team recognition.
After spending a weekend in Durham, North Carolina at the team's training camp, Grega emerged as one of 18 players selected for the England tour roster.
Headed by Phil Edwards, the U-21 national team coach spoke highly of the team's potential.
"The U-21 group has had two excellent training camps to start 2017," Edwards said. "We have been able to name a squad for the test series with a good balance of experience between those who played in the major tournaments in 2016 and some fresh faces who will be gaining their first taste of hockey at this level. It is going to be exciting to see them compete on the international stage against England."
The U-21 USWNT will play in a four match test series against England to be held at Bisham Abbey. The games will be played on Thursday, April 13 (4 p.m. local), Friday, April 14 (4 p.m. local, Sunday April 16 (3 p.m. local) and Monday, April 17 (10:30 a.m. local).
