NORFOLK, Va. -- The freshman duo of Vinnie Pasquantino and John Wilson helped lead Old Dominion to a series-clinching 7-4 victory over West Virginia on Saturday afternoon at the Bud Metheny Complex.

With the 2-1 series win, Old Dominion (11-4) has won all three weekend series so far this season and is now 4-3 against Power 5 opponents.

On the mound, Wilson improved to 3-0 on the season, allowing just one earned run in 6.2 innings of work. The left-hander scattered three hits and one walk, while striking out four and did not allow a hit until the fourth inning.

At the plate, Pasquantino became the first Monarch this season with a four-hit game. The freshman first baseman went 4-for-5 with a double and three RBIs, including a two-out two-RBI double that ignited a five-run eighth inning.

ODU never trailed in the game, as the Monarchs got to West Virginia (8-7) starter Conner Dotson, who entered Saturday 3-0 with a 3.18 ERA, early, scoring a run in both the first and third innings. After the Mountaineers closed the gap to 2-1 in the seventh, the Monarchs capitalized on a WVU error in the bottom of the eighth, scoring five unearned runs, including four with two outs.

With runners on second and third and one out in the eighth, Kyle Battle chopped a grounder to third, but WVU's Cole Austin's bobble allowed Turner Bishop to score from third. After a Nick Walker flyout, Pasquantino, Zach Rutherford and Carson Henry recorded three straight RBI hits to break the game open.

WVU added three runs in the ninth to close the final margin to 7-4.

Freshman Corey Klak recorded his first career save, pitching the final two frames. Offensively, Will Morgan went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and Rutherford went 1-for-3 with a run and 2 RBIs. Henry, yet another true freshman, recorded both his first career hit and RBI with the run-scoring single in the bottom of the eighth.

ODU remains at home for a midweek series against VMI on Tuesday and Wednesday. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
