Seven Lady Monarchs Score in Loss at Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. – The Old Dominion women’s lacrosse team fell 11-8 to the Spiders from the University of Richmond Wednesday evening at the Robins Football Stadium.

Connor Carson led the ODU attack with two goals and an assist for three points. Six other Lady Monarchs scored a goal in the 11-8 loss including freshman Ryann Bauer, who saw her first action of the season.

Kerri Caruso led the team with five ground balls and tied with Natalie Ledwitz in caused turnovers with three apiece. Alyssa Sebesto and Ledwitz each had two draw controls to round out the Lady Monarch stat lines.

Maggi Buckley collected 12 saves on 23 shots faced giving up 11 goals. ODU falls to 2-2 on the season while Richmond moves to 2-1.

ODU opened the second half with gusto scoring three unanswered goals in the opening 11 minutes to pull within two points of Richmond (8-6). Sam Geiersbach (UR) scored her fourth goal of the game in the 49th minute to put Richmond up 9-6. Back-to-back ODU goals put the Lady Monarchs within one (9-8), but Richmond closed the game with two goals to win 11-8.

The Spiders controlled much of the first half heading into halftime with an 8-3 lead. Megan Cameron, Lauren Irvine and Sophia Richie all scored for the Lady Monarchs in the first half.

The Lady Monarchs return to action on Saturday, March 4, as they take on the Lady Flames of Liberty University. Game time is set for 12 p.m. at the Liberty Lacrosse Field in Lynchburg, Va.
