NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 26 Old Dominion men’s tennis team (8-3) fell at Yale (6-3) by a 4-3 score on Friday at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.
“All the credit to Yale,” said ODU head coach Dominik Mueller. “They out-executed us today. All the little things we did right so far this season, we didn't do today collectively. Yale did and that's why they deserved to win.”
The Tennis Monarchs will be right back in action at Penn on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 9:00 a.m. in Philadelphia.
Meet Penn:
Penn has started the season with a 6-4 record and is coming off a 2-1 record in the ECAC Championships over the weekend. The Quakers started the season with a win against Middle Tennessee, 5-2. Penn followed that match with a loss to Vanderbilt, 6-1. The Quakers then went on to beat both Georgetown and Temple by a 6-1 score. Penn split two matches against Big 10 opposition, falling to Minnesota 4-3 while defeating Wisconsin 4-3. The Quakers suffered a loss to Rice, 6-1, before heading into the ECAC Championships. The Quakers fell to Dartmouth 4-1, but defeated St. John’s 4-1 and Harvard 4-2, finishing 5th in the tournament.
The Quakers Sophomore Kyle Mautner finds himself ranked No. 106 in the ITA Top 125. Mautner is 9-1 on the season in the No. 1 singles spot. Junior Josh Pompan, who is 6–2 on the season, playing at the No. 2 singles spot for the Quakers. Freshman Max Cancilla has started the season with a 6-3 record.
