NORFOLK, Va. -- Kurt Sinnen went 2-for-4 with a pair of two-out RBIs and Adam Bainbridge and Sam Sinnen combined to allowed just one run in nine innings of work to lead Old Dominion over Delaware, 2-1, on Friday afternoon at the Bud Metheny Complex.
Old Dominion (4-0), in its opening game of the ODU Baseball Tournament, scored runs in the first and third innings and that proved to be enough run support for the two senior hurlers. Bainbridge improved to 2-0 on the season, allowing one run on five hits in five innings of work. Sam Sinnen then finished the game, tossing four scoreless innings for his fifth career save.
In both the first and third innings, Kurt Sinnen plated Zach Rutherford with a two-out RBI single. Rutherford finished the day 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
Delaware (0-5) scored its lone run in the fifth inning on an RBI triple from Kevin Mohollen. Brandon Walter started the game for the Blue Hens, going 6.1 innings and allowing two runs on six hits.
The Monarchs are back in action tomorrow at 4 p.m. against Kentucky. The Wildcats won earlier today, defeating Saint Joseph's, 16-9, in the ODU Baseball Tournament opener. St. Joe's and Delaware will play in the first leg of tomorrow's double dip at 12 p.m.
Morgan Maguire will get the start on the mound for ODU tomorrow.
