CONWAY, S.C. – Old Dominion men’s soccer fell Saturday afternoon to Coastal Carolina 3-2 in non-conference action at the CCU Soccer Stadium in Conway, S.C. Three unanswered goals by the Chanticleers in an eight-minute window propelled the home team to their fourth victory of the season.
Jesse Miralrio and Doni Pollock scored the two Monarch goals in 7th and 78th minutes, respectively, while Coastal scored three late unanswered goals to tie and win the match. The Monarchs fall to 3-4-2 on the season while the Chanticleers improve to 4-4-1.
Miralrio got the Monarchs on the board in the 7th minute on a shot from 10-yards out that connected with the lower left section of the net. The lone goal of the first half was Miralrio’s second of the season and 13th of his collegiate career. The Chanticleers held an 11-6 lead on the shot chart for the first half and a 3-1 save differential.
Old Dominion went up 2-0 half way through the second period on a one-on-one unassisted goal by Pollock [77:56], his second career goal. Coastal Carolina answered with their first goal just 25 seconds later as Martin Melchor connected with the net.
The Chanticleers tied the match two-all on an 84th minute goal by Frantzdy Pierrot off the Wes White assist. The same duo combined for the game-winning goal three minutes later to help the Chants defeat the Monarchs 3-2.
Alex Tiesenhausen had five saves and allowed three goals in his 90-minutes in net, falling to 3-4-2 on the season. He needs just four more save this season to tie the ODU career saves record of 206 held by Joey Mallia. Coastal Carolina’s Linares-Ortiz allowed two goals while tallying six saves for the Chants.
The Monarchs return home on Friday, Oct. 7, as they host Conference USA foe, Florida Atlantic, at 7 p.m. at the ODU Soccer Complex.
