NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion men’s soccer [2-1-1] fell 3-1 to #23 Vermont [5-0-0] on Friday, Sept. 9 at the ODU Soccer Complex in the opening game of the 41st annual ODU Soccer Classic. Loftur Eriksson scored the go-ahead go for the Catamounts in the 62nd minute and Dayton Jackson added an additional goal in the 74th minute on the assist from Brian Wright to put the game out of reach.
Bernard Yeboah scored the first goal of the match in the 31st minute to give #23 Vermont the 1-0 lead. The goal was Yeboah’s seventh of the season with the double assist coming from Charlie DeFeo and Jon Arnar Barodal.
Doni Pollock tied the match in the 41st minute on an assist from Sebastien Hauret. The game-tying goal was Pollock’s first of the season and Hauret’s fourth assist on the year. Pollock’s goal also snapped the Catamounts three-match shutout streak as Aron Runarsson allowed his first goal of the season.
No. 23 Vermont had commanding lead in shots with 23 to Old Dominion’s 14. The Catamounts also led in corners 9-6. Alex Tiesenhausen collected nine saves on the night as he gained his first loss of the season. Roger Rojas-Goodbold received the teams ‘Man of the Match’ honors for his performance on defense for the Monarchs.
The Monarchs return to action on Sunday, Sept. 11, at 2 p.m. against #18 Radford to wrap up the 41st annual ODU Soccer Classic. Fans are encouraged to bring their four legged companions to the game for men’s soccer final ‘Sunday Dog Days” of the season.
