NORFOLK, Va. -- Senior Megan Byas scored two goals including the game-winner in overtime to lift the No. 14 Old Dominion field hockey team to a thrilling 2-1 OT victory over BIG EAST opponent Liberty Friday at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.
With under a minute remaining in the first half, Liberty's Alynn Richardson scored off an assist from Cassidy Bremner to put the Lady Flames up 1-0 at the break. Liberty led the shot count 4-1 and attempted four penalty corners to ODU's one in the first half.
In the 68th minute, Megan Byas got the Lady Monarchs on the board, scoring the equalizing goal on a penalty corner inserted by Chrissy Horn and assisted by Marlee McClendon.
With under five minutes to play in the first overtime period, Byas struck again, scoring the game-clinching goal off an assist from Danielle Grega.
For the game, Liberty outshot ODU 13-7 and maintained a 6-4 advantage over the Lady Monarchs in penalty corners.
Kealsie Robles secured the win for ODU, playing all 70 minutes in the cage while registering five saves.
Old Dominion improved to 6-3 on the season and 2-1 in the BIG EAST, while Liberty dropped to 3-6 and 2-1 in conference play.
