WOLCOTT, Colo. -- The Mallory Hetzel era for Old Dominion women's golf opened with a tie for fourth place at the Golfweek Conference Challenge at Red Sky Golf Club this week.
The Lady Monarchs (+17) tied for the second-best final day round to move up one spot on the leaderboard and finish in a deadlock for fourth with a pair of Power 5 schools in Washington State and Tennessee.
ODU was led by senior Rachel Walker (E), who finished in a tie for eighth overall. The remaining four individuals for Hetzel's squad all finished in the top 50 of the 90-player tournament. Katerina Vlasinova (+6) tied for 26th, Maggie Simmermacher (+7) tied for 33rd, Sana Tufail (+8) tied for 37th and Charlotte De Corte (+11) climbed 18 spots on the leaderboard with a 2-under final round to finish in a tie for 49th.
San Diego State (+2) won the 18-team tournament by eight strokes and Malene Krolboll Hansen (-9) of Coastal Carolina captured the individual crown.
The Lady Monarchs return to action Oct. 10-11 at the Pinehurst Challenge in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
