NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion men’s soccer [3-2-1, 0-1-0] fell 2-0 to 9th ranked Charlotte [4-0-0, 1-0-0] in the Conference USA opener Saturday night in front of 1,147 fans at the ODU Soccer Complex. Both goals of the night came from Charlotte's No. 11 Harrison Steadman [40:08, 87:14]. Jesse Miralrio earned the 'Man of the Match' honors with four shots on the night.
Harrison Steadman of Charlotte highlighted the game scoring both goals for the 49ers in the CUSA opener for both teams. He scored the only goal of the first half in the 41st minute on the assist from Marco Sunol-Rojas off a rebounded save by ODU's Alex Tiesenhausen [40:08]. His second goal of the match, the goal that put the game out of reach, came on a long assist from goalkeeper Elliot Panicco in the 88th minute of play.
The 49ers totaled 13 shots on the night with five coming on frame. Tiesenhausen collected three saves and gave up two goals for his second loss of the season in net. Miralrio led the Monarchs in shots with four while Doni Pollock followed with three, as the duo combined for seven of the eight team shots.
ODU Men's Soccer returns to the pitch on Tuesday, Sept. 20, as they travel to VCU for their first road game of the season. First kick is slated for 7 p.m. at the Sportsbackers Stadium in Richmond, Virginia.
