ODU Drops Season Opener at No. 18 Penn State, 6-2

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The 20th-ranked Old Dominion field hockey team dropped its opening game of the season to No. 18 Penn State, 6-2, Friday night in University Park. With the score deadlocked 2-2 at the break, Penn State reeled off four quick scores in the opening minutes of the second half and never looked back.

Junior Danielle Grega opened up the scoring for Old Dominion with goals in the second and 16th minute, but each goal was answered by Penn State. The Lady Monarchs never trailed in the first half despite Penn State leading the shot count 6-3.

The Nittany Lions exploded early in the second half, scoring four goals in 11 minutes to jump out in front, 6-2. For the game, five different players scored for Penn State with Moira Putsch finding the net twice. The Nittany Lions finished with a 14-4 shot advantage and led the Lady Monarchs 4-1 in corners.

Kealsie Robles played the full 70 minutes in goal for ODU, racking up six saves.

Freshman Erin Huffman recorded a shot for Old Dominion in her collegiate debut.

No. 20 ODU fell to 0-1, 0-0 (BIG EAST) while No. 18 Penn State improved to 1-0, 0-0 (Big Ten) for the season.
