Sixteen members of the Old Dominion baseball team have scattered around the country to play in some of college baseball’s most prestigious summer leagues.

A key part of a players’ development, ODU has sent players to eight different summer leagues. Three players headed to the Cape Cod, Coastal Plains, NECBL and the Ohio Valley leagues, while the Monarchs have one representative in the Cal Ripken, Cal Collegiate, Perfect Game and the Valley leagues.

Cal Collegiate League
The California Collegiate League (CCL), founded in 1993, is a collegiate summer baseball league headquartered in Santa Barbara, California. It is associated with the National Baseball Congress. The CCL hosts a 39-game championship summer season including a north vs. south All Star Game. Players use wooden bats and professional-level balls to further their development as potential professional ballplayers.

Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League
The Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League was founded in 2005 to provide a world-class opportunity for college all-stars from across the United States to play wooden bat baseball in the national capital region each summer. Since the league began in 2005, 302 alumni have been drafted by or signed as a free agent with MLB teams.

Cape Cod Baseball League
The Cape Cod Baseball League celebrates its 131th season in 2016 and continues to provide fans with competitive baseball entertainment in which the country’s top college players display multidimensional skills in their purest form. With more than 1,100 all time alumni performing at all levels of professional baseball in 2015, a record total 292 former Cape Leaguers populate major league rosters.

Coastal Plains League
The new and revived Coastal Plain League is a collegiate summer league, featuring top-notched college players from across the nation. heading into the 2016 season, the Coastal Plain League has seen over 1,300 alumni drafted by Major League teams and has had 81 alums make it to the Majors, include 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander.

New England Collegiate Baseball League
The NECBL was founded in 1993 under the leadership of Emmy Award-winning television producer/director Joseph Consentino, former St. John's University and Boston Red Sox minor league outfielder. Play started in 1994 and today the NECBL has become a nationally recognized top-tier league that plays in all six New England states and recruits players attending U.S colleges from New England, the other forty-four States and foreign countries. Each year the top players are scouted and selected in the MLB Draft.

Ohio Valley Summer Collegiate Baseball League
The Ohio Valley Summer Collegiate Baseball League was born in October 2010. The Ohio Valley League plays with NCAA Rules and guidelines on the field. Wooden bats will still be used and the bulk of the season will be played in June and July.

Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League
The Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League was founded in the fall of 2010 by eight summer baseball teams located across upstate New York in conjunction with Perfect Game USA, baseball's largest scouting service.

The Valley League
The Valley League was founded May 15, 1897, in Edinburg, Va. and included charter members Winchester, Woodstock, Strasburg, Front Royal, and Edinburg. It evolved in the early years from a Class D minor league to an NCAA-sanctioned league in 1961 operating under NCAA rules. The league adopted wooden bats in 1993. Each team plays a 40-game schedule June through August concluding with a top-eight-team play-off to determine the Lineweaver Cup Championship.
