NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion baseball team heads to Charlotte, North Carolina to take on the Charlotte 49ers in a critical three-game weekend Conference USA series at Robert & Mariam Hayes Stadium this weekend.

Last season, the Monarchs won the series finale between the teams at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex with an explosive 15-1 performance. Zach Rutherford, Connor Myers and Jason McMurray each knocked in three runs, while Rutherford, Myers, McMurray and senior Josh Eldridge had three hits each.

The Monarchs are looking to bounce back after falling 3-6 at the Bud to the UAB Blazers last Saturday. Six Monarchs recorded a hit in the game, with Connor Myers, Jason McMurray and Chris Livers each recording a RBI. Jake Josephs was hit with the loss after he allowed the go-ahead run in the ninth inning.

Charlotte lost to No. 15 Rice, 12-4, in its last outing dropping the 49ers to 19-26 overall and 8-13 C-USA action. Josh Maciejewski recorded the loss after allowing eight hits and seven runs. Five different Niners recorded a hit on the night with Logan Sherer leading the way with a 4-5 showing. Hunter Jones led the team with two RBIs.
