MOBILE, Ala. – The No. 50 nationally ranked Old Dominion men’s tennis team rallied from 0-2 to win four straight singles matches to defeat No. 74 UAB by a 4-2 score at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts on Saturday. ODU has now won 12 of its last 13 matches.
The Blazers took an early 1-0 lead after claiming the doubles point. UAB then took a 2-0 lead with a victory in singles on Court No. 6.
It was Adam Moundir, who gave ODU its first team point when he took down Mitchell Martell in No. 1 singles (7-6 (6), 6-3).
Javier Jover Maestre tied the match at 2-2, when he defeated Christian Coetzee (7-6 (7), 6-3) in No. 4 singles.
Zvonimir Podvinski gave the Tennis Monarchs their first lead of the match, as he came from behind to beat Luiz Felipe Pinto (5-7, 6-2, 6-3) in No. 5 singles.
Aziz Kijametovic sealed the deal for Old Dominion in a tight three-setter over Oliver Poysti (6-4, 1-6, 6-3) in No. 2 singles, lifting ODU to a 4-2 victory on Saturday afternoon.
The Tennis Monarchs will take on South Alabama (12-10) on Sunday, April 3 at 11:30 a.m. in Mobile, Ala.
South Alabama (12-10) enters Sunday’s match against Old Dominion with a 12-10 overall record. The Jaguars’ veteran lineup is highlighted by Senior Tim Srkala, out of the Czech Republic, who holds a 10-8 singles record on the season.
