ELON, N.C. – The No. 28 ranked Old Dominion men’s tennis team (11-3) defeated Elon (7-4) by a 4-1 score on Saturday at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center. The Tennis Monarchs are now on a nine-match win streak

Elon jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after claiming the doubles point, but the Monarchs would fight back, winning the next four singles matches.

Zvonimir Podvinski tied the team score up at 1-1 when he made quick work out of Chris Humphreys (6-3, 6-1) on Court No. 5.

Jacob Nicolussi gave Old Dominion its first lead of the day, in which the Monarchs would never relinquish when he toppled Elon’s Charlie Sullivan (6-4, 6-1).

No. 103 nationally ranked Adam Moundir gave Old Dominion a 3-1 advantage, as the sophomore was too much for Mario Paccini (6-4, 2-6, 6-1) on Court No. 1.

It was Old Dominion’s Aziz Kijametovic who sealed the deal for the Monarchs when he beat Felipe Sarrasague in straight sets on Court No. 2 (6-4, 6-4).

The Tennis Monarchs jumped 27 spots since last week in the national Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings and are currently ranked No. 28 this week by the ITA. This jump is the biggest in the NCAA this week and has been labeled ITA’s Oracle Rankings Big Mover of the Week.
