ODU Recognized as NFHCA National Academic Team

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion field hockey was recognized as a 2015 ZAG Field Hockey / NFHCA Division I National Academic Team, as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association on Monday.

The Lady Monarchs have received NFHCA National Academic Team recognition in each of head coach Andrew Griffiths' three seasons at the helm of the program.

The National Academic Team Award recognizes those institutions that achieved a team GPA of 3.0 or higher during the first semester of the 2015-16 academic year. ODU joined the other five BIG EAST teams in garnering the academic accolade from the NFHCA.

Old Dominion was one of 68 qualified schools, finishing with a 3.21 cumulative team GPA with eight Lady Monarchs earning Dean’s List honors following the fall session. Danielle Grega highlighted the semester with a perfect 4.0 GPA, while 16 other players recorded a 3.0 or better.

The Lady Monarchs also saw 13 individuals earn NFHCA National Academic Squad honors. The squad recognizes those student-athletes who achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2015-16 academic year. Emily Harting, Alex Iqbal and Caitlin Walsh hightlighted the team, earning the accolade for the fourth time. Megan Byas, Danielle Grega, Tori Harwood, Clara Meschini, Amie Olton, Kealsie Robles, Kristie Robles, Carrie Sensenig, Kristen Vick and Kelly Weaver were also honored.

The 2015 ZAG Field Hockey / NFHCA Scholars of Distinction will be released on Wednesday, March 23rd.
