CHARLESTON, S.C. – The No. 40 nationally ranked Old Dominion men’s tennis team (13-3) extended its impressive win-streak to 11 after pummeling the College of Charleston (8-4) by a 6-1 score on Saturday afternoon at the CofC Tennis Center at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
The Monarchs handled business in No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, lifting them to an early 1-0 advantage.
Old Dominion would then claim victories in five out of six singles matches.
On Court No. 1, Adam Moundir battled back after dropping the first set to win sets two and three against Juan Estevarena (3-6, 6-3, 6-0).
ODU’s Aziz Kijametovic took care of Zack Lewis in straight sets in the No. 2 singles slot, 6-4, 6-4.
Javier Jover Maestre pulled out a nice three-set victory in No. 4 singles against Charlie Ghriskey (6-3, 6-7, 6-4).
Zvonimir Podvinski lost the first set 1-6, before catching fire and beating Vasily Kichigin (1-6, 7-5, 7-5).
Also winning in singles for ODU was Jacob Nicolussi, when he made quick work out of the College of Charleston’s Garrett Gordon (6-2, 6-3).
Old Dominion’s last loss came all the way back on Jan. 31st at No. 50 Penn State.
The Tennis Monarchs will be back in action on Saturday, March 26, when they take on Brown in Providence, R.I. at noon. Then on Sunday, March 27, Old Dominion will face No. 46 Harvard in Cambridge, Mass. at 10:00 a.m.
