NORFOLK, Va. - The No. 61 Old Dominion men’s tennis team (3-3) nearly won every match against Penn (2-4) in the Monarchs 6-1 victory over the Quakers on Saturday afternoon at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center. Old Dominion is now a perfect 3-0 when playing at home this season.
ODU jumped out to an early lead after winning two competitive doubles matches. First, it was Adam Moundir and Aziz Kijametovic on Court No. 1 who got the better of Penn’s Nicholai Westergaard and Austin Kaplan by a score of 6-2. The Quakers weren’t going down easy on doubles Court No. 2, Thomas Spratt and Blaine Willenborg battled back from a 0-3 deficit before Old Dominion’s Michael Weindl and Jacob Nicolussi put them away for good, 6-4.
The Monarchs then won back-to-back singles matches on Courts 4 and 5 courtesy of Zvonimir Podvinski and Javier Jover Maestre. It was Jacob Nicolussi on Court 6 who clinched the victory for ODU when he defeated Penn’s Thomas Spratt in straight sets 7-5, 6-4.

Old Dominion will be right back in action tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. against No. 34 nationally ranked Dartmouth at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
Dartmouth comes to ODU with an impressive 5-1 record with three of those wins off of top 75 ranked teams. Including a 4-3 win over No. 32 Tulane this past weekend in a match that came down to a three set battle on No. 3 singles in which Dartmouth was victorious. Dartmouth is lead by No. 18 nationally ranked singles Dobydas Sakinis.
