GLENDALE, Ariz. - Former Old Dominion long snapper Rick Lovato became the first former Monarch to play in the NFL, making seven snaps for the Green Bay Packers against the Arizona Cardinals yesterday.
At the 10:52 mark of the first quarter, Lovato made the first snap of his career to punter Tim Masthay who delivered a 49-yard punt. Lovato snapped for six Masthay punts and a successful fake punt.
Lovato is one of three Monarchs currently in the NFL, joining quarterback Taylor Heinicke is on the 53 man roster of the Minnesota Vikings and Larry Pinkard is on the practice squad for the Oakland Raiders. Former Monarchs Deron Mayo and Thomas DeMarco are in the CFL while Antonio Vaughan signed a contract with the Arizona Rattlers of the AFL.
