POWELLS POINT, N.C. -- ODU’s David Langley shot a 63 in the first round of the ODU/Outer Banks Invitational and stands in first place of all 93 golfers in the event. The Monarchs are tied for second place with Akron out of 18 participating schools heading into round two on Monday.
Campbell leads the team race after the Camels fired a 267 (-17) in the first round, while ODU and Akron are tied for second after shooting 278 (-6). George Mason is in fourth after shooting 280 (-4), and Bowling Green rounds out the top five after firing a 281 (-3).
Individually, Langley leads the Monarchs and all 93 golfers after shooting a 63 (-8), while Eric Edwards of George Mason and Craig Hornberger of Campbell are tied for second place after each shot 64 (-7).
ODU freshman Calvin Greschner shot a 71 (E) and is tied for 18th place, and Monarch seniors Ashton Newsom and Seth Sweet are tied with one another in 30th place after firing a 72 (+1).
Playing as an individual, Old Dominion’s Thomas Henderson ranks seventh on the individual leaderboard, as he shot a 68 (-3) in the first round.
After day one, Langley is tied for first for most birdies after sinking 8 and also had the second-best par four scoring average of 3.56 (-4).
