NORFOLK, Va. -- The 14th-ranked Old Dominion men's soccer team travels to UNC Wilmington for a mid-week non-conference matchup with the Seahawks on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m.
ODU (7-2-1) had its eight-match unbeaten streak snapped on Saturday, falling at FIU, 2-1. The loss was the Monarchs' first since dropping to the season opener to Coastal Carolina. The Monarch attack, which ranks sixth in the NCAA with a 2.30 goals per game average, has been paced by senior Ivan Militar (3g/5a) and freshman Niko Klosterhalfen (4g/2a) so far this season.
Defensively, the Monarchs have posted three shutouts and goalkeeper Alex Tiesenhausen, who has played every minute in goal, has a 0.95 goals against average.
UNC Wilmington (8-2-3) holds signature victories over Duke and South Carolina so far this season, but have won just two of its last five games. Colin Bonner (7g/5a) and Ben Fisher (6g/5a) lead a Seahawk offense that ranks 10th in the nation with a 2.23 goals per game average, while goalkeeper Sean Melvin has been strong in the pipes with a 1.00 goals against average and five combined shutouts.
Wednesday's match will be the 26th all-time meeting between the two programs who once battled on an annual basis as members of the CAA. The Monarchs lead the all-time series 17-7-1, but the Seahawks earned a 2-1 overtime victory last year in Norfolk.
