NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion women’s soccer team (5-9-0, 3-2-0) will host Conference USA opponent Charlotte (5-9-0, 1-4-0) on Friday night at 7 p.m. at the ODU Soccer Complex in its fourth-straight C-USA home contest. The Lady Monarchs will honor their two seniors, Devin Dougherty and Jordan Jones, on Senior Night prior to the match.
Senior Devin Dougherty from Mickleton, N.J. has played in all 66 games throughout her four-year career for the Lady Monarchs. She scored a goal against Marshall and added an assist against WKU in her junior campaign. As a sophomore, Dougherty netted goals against George Washington and Rice. In 2012, she was the only freshman on the team to start and play in every game, while scoring a goal against VMI. Dougherty is a communications major and sports management minor and has been Dean’s List recipient on numerous occasions.
Senior Jordan Jones hails from Sicklerville, N.J. and has already appeared in 13 contests for the Lady Monarchs this season. In all, Jones has played in 60 ballgames throughout her four-year career. She played in 17 games as a sophomore and then 16 games as a junior. In 2013, Jones scored a crucial game-tying goal against C-USA foe Southern Miss. Jones majors in health sciences/public health and has been Dean’s List recipient on numerous occasions.
The Lady Monarchs enter their lone match of the weekend after toppling C-USA foe UAB 2-0 at the ODU Soccer Stadium on Tuesday night in a game that was rescheduled due to Hurricane Joaquin. ODU defeated the Blazers on the strength of a first half goal by freshman Kira Laurento and a second half score by sophomore Deirdre Bradley, both of which were assisted by the team’s leading point scorer and true freshman Iris Achterhof.
Achterhof takes the field Friday night with six goals and three assists for a total of 15 points for ODU. Madison Hogan has netted three goals on the year with two assists, and freshman Kira Laurento has now found the back of the net twice and has added three assists.
ODU goalkeeper Erin Kinz has started every game (1,268 minutes in all) and has racked up 48 saves on the season. After the Lady Monarchs’ 2-0 victory over UAB, Kinz has now compiled three clean sheets for the Lady Soccer Monarchs.
Charlotte will be looking to get back on track after four straight losses, as the 49ers have fallen to Southern Miss, Middle Tennessee, North Texas and Rice in the last two weeks, respectively.
The 49ers are led by sophomore Martha Tomas, who has scored 11 goals on the year and has turned in three separate two-goal performances. Goalkeeper Annika McHenry has made 13 starts for Charlotte, accumulating 54 saves and a save percentage of .692.
LOOKING AHEAD FOR THE LADY SOCCER MONARCHS
The Lady Soccer Monarchs will hit the road for a pair of C-USA matchups next weekend, as ODU battles UTSA on Friday, Oct. 23 at 8 p.m. (ET) and UTEP on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 3 p.m. (ET).
