WINSTON-SALEM, N.C – Nikol Hristova and Marijana Novakovic claimed their second straight doubles championship for the Old Dominion women’s tennis team, as the Lady Monarchs wrapped up competition at the Wake Forest Invite on Sunday. The duo capped off the three-day event by defeating host school Wake Forest’s Luisa Fernandez and Andrea Retolaza Andrade, 6-3, in the A Doubles finals.
Hristova and Novakovic got off to a strong start Saturday morning, defeating their opponents from UNCG, 6-3. In the quarterfinal round, the Lady Monarch pair upended Richmond’s A Doubles duo, 6-4, and later went on to solidify a finals berth by dominating their opponents from Winthrop, 6-1, to reach the finals.
ODU’s Adriana Rajkovic and Nataliya Vlasova teamed up to take second place in the B Doubles draw, earning victories over opponents from Appalachian State, NC State and Liberty before dropping the finals match, 7-5, to Wake Forest’s Emma Davis and Anna Ulyashchenko.
In the C Doubles bracket, Ingrid Vojcinakova and Ivana Vukovic also turned in a runner-up finish for Old Dominion. The Lady Monarch duo defeated opponents from ECU, UConn and UNCW before falling in the finals to opponents from Wake Forest by a 6-3 score.
In singles action, Nikol Hristova went 2-1 in the A Singles draw by defeating opponents from ECU and UNCC before falling in the semifinals to Emma Davis of Wake Forest.
ODU’s Ivana Vukovic placed second in the E Singles draw by advancing to the final round with wins over opponents from UNCC, Davidson and Appalachian State and then dropped the finals match to Masey DeMoss of UNCG.
