NORFOLK, Va. -- The 12th-ranked Old Dominion men’s soccer team takes a quick hiatus from Conference USA play on Wednesday, as the Monarchs host in-state rival VCU at 7 p.m. at the ODU Soccer Complex.

ODU (5-1-1) enters Wednesday’s contest in great form, having won five of their last six matches. The only non-victory in that six-game stretch was a 1-1 draw at preseason C-USA favorite Charlotte.

The Monarch offense has been a big part of the team’s early-season success, as they rank second in C-USA and fourth in the NCAA with a 2.57 goals per game average.

Freshman Niko Klosterhalfen leads the team with 10 points (4g/2a), while Josue Henriquez (4g), Ryan Condotta (3g/1a) and Jesse Miralrio (3g/1a) have also been key contributors to the ODU attack. On the defensive end, the Monarchs are conceding an average of one goal per game.

VCU (2-6-1) has played a grueling schedule to open the 2015 season. Four of the six losses have to come to Top-25 foes. The Rams enter Wednesday on a two-game losing streak after dropping matches to national powers Virginia and UCLA last weekend. VCU has been led by Rafael Andrade Santos and Jason McGlothern, who have each netted three goals so far this season.

The Monarchs hold a commanding 24-8-5 advantage in the all-time series and have won nine of the last 12 meetings. Last year, ODU defeated the Rams, 2-1, in Richmond.

Live stats and video will be available for Wednesday’s match. The video stream will include play-by-play from Ted Alexander. Live in-game updates will also be posted on Twitter at @ODUMensSoccer.
