TEXARKANA,AR. -- Old Dominion University senior Jamison Randall shot 71 in the first round and is tied for 11th at the Conference USA Men’s Golf Championships at the Texarkana Country Club. As a team, the Monarchs are seventh after shooting 290.
UAB leads the event after the first round with a 276, two strokes ahead of North Texas. Jason Roets of North Texas is the individual leader after shooting -7 under 65 and holds a two stroke lead over Lee Hodges of UAB.
Three Monarchs, Seth Sweet, Ashton Newsom and Chad Hess are tied for 27th after shooting 73 today.
Jamison Randall had four birdies on the day as he shot 35 on the front and 36 on the back.
Statistically ODU had birdies on the day which was second best in the tournament. Chad Hess is tied for second in the tournament in par 3 scoring at 2.75 -1.
Conference USA is set to become the first NCAA Division I conference to include match play, reflecting the NCAA format, as part of its men's golf league championship. The member schools will play 54 holes of stroke play (April 26-28) on the par 72, 6,935-yard course, with the top four teams advancing to a four-team seeded match play playoff to be conducted Wednesday, April 29.
