NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion women’s tennis extended its winning streak to four matches with a 7-0 victory over George Washington University Saturday at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
The Lady Monarchs (10-4) started off the day by taking two-of-three doubles matches. Marijana Novakovic and teammate Adriana Rajkovic earned an 8-3 decision against Lana Robins and Grace Egger in No. 2 doubles action. Old Dominion also won No. 1 doubles as Borislava Botusharova and Nikol Hristova defeated Allison Hansen and Taylor Nederlander 8-2.
Botusharova, ranked No. 93 nationally, continued to play well at No. 1 singles as the freshman from Pazardzhik, Bulgaria bested Teodora Radosavljevic 6-2, 6-1. She is now 13-1 this season and has won 11 matches in a row.
Next to finish and playing at No. 6, Ivana Vukovic won her match with Nederlander 6-1, 6-1. The junior from Osijek, Croatia has now won eight of her first 12 matches for ODU.
ODU’s most versatile player Hristova, playing at the No. 3 singles position, defeated Egger by a score of 6-3, 6-3. Nikol is the only Old Dominion player to win a match in three different slots (No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3) within the starting lineup for Dom Manilla’s Lady Tennis Monarchs.
Rajkovic, a freshman from Velika Gorica, Croatia, earned a 6-2, 6-4 No. 5 singles victory against Hansen.
Ingrid Vojcinakova extended her win streak to four straight with a 6-1, 6-3 decision over Robins at No. 2 singles.
Novakovic, playing at the No. 4 spot, completed the sweep in singles action with a 6-1, 7-6(3) victory against Egle Jakuciunaite. The sophomore from Brcko, Bosnia & Herzegovina has won seven of her last eight matches.
