KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Rachel Eckert won the 1-meter dive while Reed Mathews, Vitor Sa and Julia Vido recorded NCAA B-Cut times Friday night at the Conference USA Championships.

For the second-straight night, Eckert dominated the boards scoring a 292.90 and finishing 39 points ahead of the second place finisher.  Eckert becomes the first Conference USA diver not from the University of Houston to win both the 1 and 3-meter dives in the same year.  She has already qualified for the NCAA Zones that begin from March 9-11.

Senior Carter Watson started the swimming events for the Monarchs with a second place finish in the 400 IM with a time of 3:54.53.  He finished just .04 seconds away from an NCAA B-Cut time.

Mathews followed in the 100 fly by breaking his own record that he set earlier in the day in the preliminaries.  His time of 47.09 is an NCAA B-Cut time while Vitor Sa finished second in a time of 48.61.

Sa came in second place in the 200 free with a time of 1:37.13 and recorded an NCAA B-Cut time.

Sophomore Julia Vido finished third in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.44 and also registered an NCAA B-Cut time.

The Monarchs had a trio of swimmers notch NCAA B-Cut times in the men’s 100 breaststroke.  Jacob Zeidler finished third with a time of 53.93, Eddie Hubert took fourth in 54.44 while Phillip Dahlgren was fifth in 55.26.

Anton Mikaelsson won the 100 backstroke with a time of 49.46 seconds.

In the 3-meter dive, Cory Moreno took second with a score of 300.90.

The C-USA Championships continue tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. with the prelims and the finals beginning at 6 p.m.
