NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion (3-6-3, 2-1-1) and Marshall (4-4-3, 1-1-1) played to a 1-1 tie on Sunday afternoon at the ODU Soccer Complex. For the Lady Monarchs, this was their third consecutive match which went to overtime, as well as seventh game this season which entailed OT. 11 out of 12 of ODU’s matches have now been decided by one goal or less.

“Getting to take something from both games this weekend is a huge step for us in conference play. Today, we started well and deserved the 1-0 lead. I think in the second half, we stopped making the positive runs that we made in the first half and give credit to Marshall for deserving the equalizer. In overtime, we were the stronger team and really pushed to win the game. Again, we made a huge step this weekend and have a lot to be proud of.”

In the 21st minute of play, Morgan Vezina and Jessie Klamut played in a combo cross, which Devin Dougherty placed into the back of Marshall’s net, giving the Lady Monarchs a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. The goal was Dougherty’s first of the season.

At the half, ODU took nine shots compared to Marshall’s four. The Lady Monarchs also attempted a total of six corners in the first 45 minutes of play, while the Thundering Herd didn’t attempt any.

In the 81st minute, Jenna Dubs played a ball into ODU’s box off a free kick, only to find Kristine Culicerto for the equalizing goal which forced overtime. The goal was Culicerto’s team-leading sixth goal.

In overtime, neither team was able to score, bringing the game to a 1-1 draw.

For the game, the Lady Monarchs fired off 19 shots, while the Thundering Herd took 17. Old Dominion attempted 11 corners compared to Marshall’s two.

ODU’s Meredith Lenox tallied six saves in 110 minutes of work. Marshall’s Lizzie Kish compiled five saves on the day.
