NORFOLK, Va. – After six consecutive road games, the Old Dominion University women’s soccer team (3-6-2, 2-1-0) returned home to take on Western Kentucky (6-3-0, 1-1-0) on Friday night at the ODU Soccer Complex, in a game that the Lady Monarchs would come from behind with a man-down to conquer a 2-1 victory over the Hilltoppers.

In the 35th minute of play, Western Kentucky’s Kelly Phipps centered the ball into ODU’s box, only to find Lauren Moats, who beat Lady Monarch goalkeeper Erin Kinz to the pass and poked the ball in from just a couple yards out giving the Hilltoppers a 1-0 advantage. Despite trailing 1-0 at the half, ODU led the shot count, 5-2, and took the only two corners of the first 45 minutes.

Moments later in the 58th minute, Taylor Smith found Grace Haverly, who found the back of the net to nod the score at 1-1. The goal was Haverly’s second of the season.

The two teams stayed tied at 1-1 to force overtime. This was Old Dominion’s sixth match which entailed overtime this season.

After the first overtime came and went with the score still level, it was Old Dominion’s Devin Dougherty who found Madison Hogan off a corner kick to lift the Lady Monarchs to a 2-1 victory while playing a man-down.
