MURFREESBORO, TN.—ODU sophomore PJ Higgins sacrifice fly RBI brought home Nick Walker with the go-ahead run in the seventh inning to give the Monarchs a 4-3 victory over Middle Tennessee State Sunday afternoon. Because of the weather in the area and travel curfew due to ODU’s flight schedule the game was called after the seventh.
After a rain delay of about 1:30,senior Ben Slaton led off with a single to bring home two runs. Higgins sacrifice fly brought home Walker with the lead run.
In the bottom of the seventh, MTSU go a lead-off hit by Austin Bryant, but Monarch reliever Brad Gero struck out Trent the side, saving the win for the Monarchs, his ninth of the season.
ODU took a 1-0 lead in the third inning Tyler Urps got a one out walk and Nick Walker singled. PJ Higgons drew a walk to load the bases and Urps then scored from third on a wild pitch.
MTSU came back in the fourth as Hank LaRue scored from third on a balk, , then Michael Adkins doubled home Miller for a 2-1 lead. The Blue Raiders added a run in the fifth on a Delgado duble which brought home Ellison for a 3-1 lead.
The Monarchs loaded the bases in the seventh. Jordan Negrini led off with a hit, Chris Livers walked and Nick Walker drew a bases on ball. The rain storm then hit at 1:48 CT. After an hour delay, the game resumed at 3:15 CT.
Walker led ODU with two hits on the day.The Monarchs return home to host No. 1 Virginia tuesday night at Harbor Park at 7 p.m.
