SENIOR NIGHT: ODU Looks to Extend Win-Streak to Five Wed. (7PM) vs. ECU

NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion University women’s basketball team (15-14, 8-7) will look to extend their winning-streak to five and avenge a one-point loss from earlier in the season against the Pirates from East Carolina University (22-6, 10-5) on Wednesday, March 5, at the Ted Constant Center, which will also be Senior Night for four Lady Monarchs: Becca Allison, Michelle Brandao, Stephanie Gardner and Shakeva Richards.

Old Dominion and East Carolina have met a total of 51 times prior to Wednesday’s showdown, with the Lady Monarchs claiming victory in 41 of those ballgames. These two schools first met during the 1969-70 season, when Old Dominion defeated ECU, 52-47. ODU had won the last 28 matchups against the Pirates, before their 64-63 heartbreaking loss to the Pirates on Jan. 30.

Old Dominion's head coach, Karen Barefoot will be reunited with East Carolina's head coach, Heather Macy, who was one of Barefoot's assistants at Lenoir-Rhyne College in 2002.

When the Lady Monarchs defeated Marshall 65-52 in overtime on February 1, at the Ted Constant Center, the victory gave ODU head coach, Karen Barefoot, 250 career wins.

Kelley Becomes First Basketball Player in School’s History to Garner ‘C-USA Player of the Week’ Honors
On December 9, 2013, Old Dominion University’s junior forward Shae Kelley was named C-USA Player of the Week. For the two games that week, Shae averaged 25 points, 14.5 rebounds, four assists, three steals and 1.5 blocked shots per game and shot an average of 56.4% from the floor.

Former CAA Rookie of the Year, Ashley Betz-White Will Redshirt 2013-14 Season
On January 29th, Old Dominion University women’s basketball head coach, Karen Barefoot announced that the Lady Monarch’s all-conference junior guard, Ashley Betz-White, will redshirt this season due to bilateral stress fractures in her lower legs.

Lady Monarch’s 2013-14 Education Day
The women’s basketball team had 8,086 elementary school children at the Ted Constant Convocation Center on Dec. 4, 2013 for its third annual Education Day Game with the Norfolk Public Schools. The game marked the Lady Monarchs’ highest attended game since the Ted opened in 2002.

The 2013-14 East Carolina Pirates (22-6, 10-5)
ECU is led offensively by redshirt sophomore forward Jada Payne who averages 19.3 points and 7.4 boards per game. A major defensive presence for the Pirates is red-shirt junior Ondrea Shaw, who leads the conference with 3.2 blocks per game, for a total of 87. East Carolina also features freshman guard, J’Kyra Brown, who earned her first-ever Conference USA Freshman of the Week on December 16. This will be ECU’s second season in a row with 20 wins, which has not happened since 1986.

-Scoring Offense: ECU is No. 4 in Conference USA with 72.5 ppg.
-Scoring Defense: East Carolina ranks No. 2 in C-USA allowing 61.5 ppg.
-Scoring Margin: The Pirates are No. 4 in the conference with 11.0 points per game.
-Steals Per Game: East Carolina averages 10.8 steals per game, which is good for No. 2 in Conference USA.
-Assists Per Game: ECU is No. 4 in the conference with 14 per game.
-Offensive Rebounds: With 17.3 boards per game that’s good for No. 1 in C-USA
