ATLANTA, Ga. – Old Dominion University swimming and diving completed a record-setting Conference USA Championships with three more records and a first place finish Saturday night in Atlanta.
Sidni Hoxha won his third individual race of the championships in the men’s 100-free with an NCAA B-cut time of 42.98. It was Hoxha’s third win of the championship, following his victories in the 50-free and 200-free. In both of those events, he set meet and school records. He was just .21 away from the meet record in today’s race. Sa took home fourth place, just missing out on a B-cut time in 44.62.
The final day started with the 1650-freestyle where junior Yesim Giresunlu set a school record with a time of 16:42.31 to earn a fifth place finish.
Sophomore Reed Mathews garnered an NCAA B-cut time and school record in the 200-Fly with a time of 1:46.13 to finish in second place. Byrne took sixth while Chris Prewitt came in eighth.
In the men’s 1650-free, Bernardo Figuiredo earned a third place finish with a time of 15:28.05 while Tyler Anderson was fourth and Andrew Cook finished sixth.
In just their second time all year performing in the platform dive, Rachel Eckert finished in eighth in the event, while Danny Rabe was sixth and TJ Ewer 10th in the men’s event.
The men’s 200-backstroke featured solid performances by the trio of Andrew Cook, Nick Hooper and Ryan Telep. Cook led the way, finishing fourth with a time of 1:50.81 while Hooper was fifth and Telep sixth.
Morgan Johnson earned a 10th place spot in the women’s 100-free with a time of 51.30.
Jason Haigh was ODU’s top finisher in the 200-breast stroke with a time of 2:01.74. Haigh finished in fifth while Richie Smith was sixth and Eddie Hubert eighth.
In the final event of the day, the 400 free relay, the women’s team of Morgan Johnson, Colleen VandePoel, Savannah Bowers and Juliana dos Santos set a school record with a time of 3:25.90 to finish in fourth.
The men’s team earned a second place finish, just .87 behind ECU. Hoxha, Jacob Zeidler, Hubert and Sa capped a strong championship for the men.
Overall, the women’s team finished in eighth place with 415 points, while the winners, Rice, received 1000.
Western Kentucky was the winner on the men’s side, with ODU in third with 1034.5 points; just 3.5 points behind second place ECU.
