NORFOLK, VA—John Bohannon scored 19 and Julian Washburn 18 to lead C-USA leading UTEP Miners to a 63-49 victory over Old Dominion Saturday night. UTEP improves to 18-6 overall and 8-1 in C-USA, while ODU is 11-13 overall and 5-4 in the league. The win was UTEP's eighth in a row and runs their C-USA road record to 4-0.
The Monarchs were led by sophomore guard Keenan Palmore and freshman guard Ambrose Mosley with eight points each. All but one Monarch who played scored atleast one point tonight.
UTEP lead by 10 at halftime, 35-25 and by as much as 19 (58-39) with 7:42 remaining in the game. The Monarchs cut into the Miners lead and pulled to within nine, 41-32 after a three-point basket by Abrose Mosley, but C.J. Cooper was fouled on a three-point attempt and hit all three of his free throws, followed by a basket from Bohannon to put UTEP up 14, 46-32 with 13:19 left.
The Miners shot .487 (19-39) from the field and hit 22-of-32 free throws on the night, while ODU shot .255 (12-47) from the field and were 22-of-35 from the free throw line.
The Monarchs outrebounded the taller Miners, 38-32 as red-shirt juniors Richard Ross and and Dimitri Batten each had seven rebounds, followed by junior reserve forward Joe Ebondo with six. UTEP was led by John Bohannon with eight rebounds, followed by Matt Willms and Cedrick Lang with six each.
The Monarchs return to action on Thursday, Feb. 13 at North Texas, then Feb. 15 at Tulsa.
