NORFOLK, Va. – Melissa Kellan scored seven goals as UC Davis defeated Old Dominion University lacrosse 12-6 Sunday afternoon at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.
With the win, the Aggies improve to 2-0 while ODU falls to 0-2.
UC Davis got on the board first with goals by Carly Voris and Kellan for a 2-0 lead before Christina Rea scored the Lady Monarchs first of the day to cut the lead to 2-1.
Megan Topper scored the first goal of her career to tie the score at two. Kellan scored on a free position shot to retook the lead for the Aggies but Megan Cameron took a long feed from Colby Muller to tie the score at three. The goal was also the first of Cameron’s career.
Voris brought UC Davis back the lead with back-to-back goals while Kellan scored with 32 seconds left for a 6-3 UC Davis halftime lead.
After another Kellan goal, Cameron added her second goal of the game off a pass from Jess Liberty to cut the lead to 8-4. Connor Carson added a goal to trim the lead to 8-5 but UC Davis scored three-straight goals for a 12-5 lead. Mary Margaret McCaleb scored with 33 seconds left for the final 12-6 tally.
Elizabeth Landry added six assists and a goal for UC Davis while Voris had three goals.
Cameron scored the first two goals of her career for ODU while Liberty had three assists.
Kai Murphy made 19 saves to earn the win while Karen Hayde made 12 stops for ODU.
Old Dominion travels to Stetson on Feb. 27 for its first road contest of the year at Stetson.
