RALEIGH, N.C. – The Old Dominion University baseball team was shutout on Wednesday evening at Doak Field by No. 18 North Carolina State, 5-0.

Old Dominion (9-6) managed just three hits against NC State (14-4), who used seven different pitchers on Wednesday, as Karl Keglovits (1-0) hurled 3.0 scoreless innings scattering two hits and walking one to earn the victory.

Andy Roberts (1-1) took the loss for the Monarchs, going 3.0 innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits with two strikeouts.

The Wolfpack struck in the bottom of the first when leadoff man Bryan Adametz reached on a throwing error and would later come around to score on a sac fly by Tarran Senay. Jake Fincher led the second off with a double, stole third and scored on an RBI groundout by Will Nance to make it 2-0.

NC State would get three in the bottom of the fourth inning off the ODU bullpen as the Wolfpack loaded the bases with no outs against redshirt senior right-hander Erick Baker. Matt Bergquist then grounded out to score Fincher and Adametz flew out to right center to score Nance. Freshman Tommy Alexander then came on and the fifth run of the game would come around to score on a wild pitch.

Freshman Connor Myers and senior Austin McGowan each doubled for Old Dominion while junior Ben Verlander had the only other hit for the Monarchs. Juniors Ben Slaton and Tyler Urps each drew walks. Alexander was able to settle in and hurled 2.1 scoreless innings in relief while sophomore right-hander Mike Ney each tossed scoreless innings of relief as well.

For the Wolfpack, Brett Austin went 2-for-3 while Fincher went 1-for-3 with a pair of runs. NC State shutout an opponent for the second consecutive day as they blanked Quinnipiac on Tuesday, 1-0.

Old Dominion opens their CAA road slate this weekend at Georgia State beginning on Friday at 6 p.m. in Atlanta.
