CLEVELAND - Despite leading most of the first half, and at halftime, 30-25 ODU lost its non-conference battle at Cleveland State, 67-55 as Marlin Mason led with 17 points. Dimitri Batten and Keenan Palmore led ODU with nine points each in the game played at the Wolstein Center.

Cleveland State (3-1) used a 15-1 second-half run to overcome a five-point halftime deficit. Charlie Lee started the run with a 3-pointer, and Tim Kamczyc's jumper with 16:56 left put the Vikings ahead 36-35.

Old Dominion (1-3) led for most of the first half, snapping a 10-all tie with 12:10 left in the first with a 9-0 run after two free throws by senior co-captain Nick Wright (Suffolk, VA.). The Monarchs led 30-25 at halftime as DeShawn Painter (Norfolk, VA.)led with seven points and red-shirt sophomore Dimitri Batten (Newport News, VA.) had six.

In the second half, ODU went out to a 34-27 with 18:55 to play after two free throws by freshman guard Keenan Palmore (Stone Mountain, GA.) before the Vikings' go-ahead run.

Cleveland State led by nine, 53-44 with 7:19 left, but the Monarchs made one morerun, cutting the lead to five, 54-49 on a layup by Richard Ross (Wichita Falls, TX.)and an assist from senior Donte Hill (Virginia Beach, VA.), but Tim Kamczyc cameback with a three-ball, the Anton Grady hit two free throws and the Vikings wereback up by 10, 59-49 with 5:10 left in the game.

Lee and Anton Grady each had 13 points for Cleveland State, Sebastian Douglas netted 11 and Kamczyc scored 10. Kamczyc also added seven assists.

Nine different players scored for Old Dominion, with Dimitrie Batten and Keenan Palmore tying with a team-high nine points. Richard Ross, Donte Hill and DeShawnPainter each had seven points.

ODU outrebounded CSU, 36-28 as Ross hauled down a game high eight, with Nick Wrightadding six boards.

CSU shot .435 (24-55) from the floor, while ODU was .356 (16-45). ODU also committed17 turnovers (ten in the second half), while Cleveland State had but nine.

The Monarchs return home to host VMI Wednesday night at the Ted Constant ConvocationCenter at 7 p.m., then travel to Murray State next Saturday.
