Women's Basketball Looks for Consecutive CAA Victories, take on UNCW Sunday

NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University women's basketball looks to move a game over .500 in CAA play as they take on UNCW Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Ted Constant Center.

Old Dominion is 6-12 overall and 3-3 in CAA play while the Seahawks are 10-7 overall and also 3-3 in conference action.

With her fifth rebound in the Lady Monarchs' 71-60 victory over Georgia State Thursday night, Old Dominion senior Tia Lewis pulled down her 1,000th career rebound.

Lewis joins elite company in ODU history, becoming just the seventh player in school history with 1,000 rebounds. Anne Donovan leads the group with 1,976 while Inge Nissen, Tracy Claxton, Nancy Lieberman, Celeste Hill, Kelly Lyons and now Lewis round out the group.

She finished the night with eight rebounds and 12 points.

Junior Mairi Buchan knocked in a career-high 16 points to lead the team. It was the first time in her career she led the team in scoring.

Jackie Cook also had 12 points while JoNiquia Guilford chipped in 11 points.

UNCW is 10-7 overall and 3-3 in CAA play coming into this afternoonscontest.

Alisha Andrews leads the team with 13 points per game. Karneshia Garrett is second on the team with 9.8 points and leads the team with 7.5 rebounds per game.

The two teams have four common opponents so far this season. Both teams defeated North Carolina A&T and Northeastern, while UNCW split the season series with VCU,while ODU has played VCU just once, losing in overtime in Richmond. The Seahawks defeated George Mason by eight in Wilmington while ODU lost in Fairfax to Mason in December.

Garrett leads the Seahawks in scoring in conference play with 10.7 points per game. The most points UNCW has scored in a CAA contest is 61, in the win over Mason.
