WILLIAMSBURG, VA-- William and Mary defeated ODU in the completion of Friday'ssuspended game, 3-2 as part of the season long Optima Health Challenge. Theregularly scheduled game was postponed and the two teams will play a double-header Sunday at 1 p.m.
ODU scored in the top of the first inning as senior shortstop Josh Wright led off with a double, then scored on senior outfielder Chris Baker's sacrifice fly.
The Tribe came right back in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 lead on back-to-back RBI singles by Ryan Lindemuth and Michael Katz. W&M added a run in the fifth as Kevin Nutter scored from third on a wild pitch. In the eighth, ODU's Austin McGowan's RBI single plated Josh Eldridge to make it 3-2.
Freshman outfielder Josh Eldridge, senior catcher Josh Tutwiler and junior firstbaseman Austin McGowan each had two hits for the Monarchs, while Michael Katz had two hits for the Tribe.
The Tribes Brett Koehler pitched 6.2 innings, allowing just six hits , one run, fanning six and walking no one for his sixth win of the season. John Farrell picked up his eighth save with 2.1 innings of relief work.
ODU freshman Connor Overton pitched four innings, allowing two runs, junior Erick Baker pitched the fifth inning and sophomore Dean Ali pitched the sixth inning last night and the seventh and eighth today, allowing no runs and just one hit.
The game was suspended last night and restarted at 3 p.m. Saturday. There was another brief weather delay after ODU hit in the eighth.
The same two teams will play two games on Sunday at 1 p.m. beginning with a seven inning contest,Then a nine inning game at William and Mary's Plumeri Park.
