MONARCH MEDIA: Practice #7 Update:

OFFENSE WINS FIRST TEAM SEGMENT:
The offense found their way into the end zone on the first team segment of Saturday's practice as quarterback Taylor Heinicke and Antonio Vaughan, out of the wildcat package, helped orchestrate an 11-play, 80-yard drive.

"They really made it look easy," noted Wilder. "They just methodically went down the field and converted three third downs."

Running backs Colby Goodwyn and Angus Harper had several carries to help move the chains in the segment.

DEFENSE WITH KEY TURNOVERS:
On the second team segment, the offense had their back against the wall with the ball at their own one yard line in the coming out drill. Defensive lineman Alex Arain helped his squad capture a safety with a sack and then fellow lineman Erik Saylor came away with the ball in the end zone on the next play causing a big celebrations by the blue shirts.

The defense also had more key plays in the final team segment. Markell Wilkins prevented several corner routes from becoming touchdowns and on the final play of the day, with the offense needing a touchdown to win the segment, safety Devon Simmons got in front for an interception, once again causing the defense to celebrate.

"The turnovers we've been working on defensively, the emphasis on tackling, getting to the football, I can really feel that starting to change with what Coach Dee and Coach Malloy have brought to the defense," said Wilder. "I can feel that engery with our players."

BLACK & WHITE STRIPES:
Officials were used today during team segments.

"The reason I like to bring the officials out is number one is our players can get comfortable with the officials and where they are," said Wilder, "and also having some things called. That gives the players a sense of what's its going to be like in a game situation."

The officials will be back the next two Saturdays as well at Forman Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium for an open scrimmage on April 14th and the Spring Game on April 21st.
