Monarchs Travel To Towson For CAA Series

NORFOLK, VA-- The ODU Baseball Monarchs hit the road for a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series against the Tigers of Towson University. The seriesbegins Friday at 3 p.m. with games on Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. at John B. Schuerholz Park.

Towson is led by Dominic Fratantuono who i hitting .375 with three homers and 14 RBI. Brendan Butler is hitting .321 with 18 RBI. As a team, the Tigers are hitting.252 with a 5.32 team ERA.

The Tigers are scheduled to throw:Michael Trionfo (5-1/ 2.23 ERA) on Friday,freshman Taylor Clarke (1-3/4.25 ERA) on Saturday and sophomore Brandon Gonnella(2-2/ 3.67 ERA) on Sunday.

ODU leads the series, 21-18. Last year, the Monarchs defeated the Tigers two of three games at the Bud Metheny Complex. In 2010, Towson won two of three at theBud. The two squads did not play in 2009 and TU won two of three at Towson in 2008.

Senior catcher Josh Tutwiler leads Monarch regulars with a .333 batting average with three homers and 15 RBI. He has a .529 slugging percentage, while Chris Bakeris hitting .291 with six homers and 23 RBI and Josh Wright is at .288 with four homers, 15 RBI and 29 runs scored.

ODU is scheduled to throw Phil McCarthy (0-3/5.34 ERA)on Friday and Ben Tomchick(1-3/5.86 ERA) on Saturday with Sunday's probable starter still undecided.

ODU Vs. NSU At Harbor Park: The ODU and NSU game on Tuesday, April 17th at 6:15 at Harbor Park, home of the AAA Norfolk Tides. You can support both baseballprograms by purchasing your game ticket for only $7 from either the ODU or Norfolk State box offices, with proceeds from advance sales earmarked to assist both baseball programs. Tickets may also be purchased the night of the game at Harborpark.
