Monarchs Host VCU In CAA Series

NORFOLK, VA-- The ODU Baseball Monarchs host CAA rival VCU in a three-game seriesbeginning Friday at 6 p.m. Friday's game is "Autism Awareness" game and Saturday's6 p.m. contest is Alumni Day. All ODU Baseball Alumni will receive free admission,food, drink and snacks. Sunday's 2 p.m. contest free ODU mini bats will be givento the first 200 fans.

For those who can't attend friday's game, you can listen live on Star1310 WGHAM radio with Director of Broadcasting, Ted Alexander along with Doug Ripley providing the play-by-play and color.

The Rams are currently 22-19 overall and 9-12 in the CAA. Sophomore infielder Joey Cujas leads VCU with a .415 batting average and ranks second in the CAA. Bill Cullen is next on the squad with a .372 batting average with a CAA best nine triples.

The Rams are scheduled to start junior lefthander Ryan Farrar(4-2/2.84 ERA) on Friday, senior righthander Seth Cutler-Voltz (4-2/4.44 ERA) on Saturday and junior righthander Kyle Haynes (2-4/ 4.45 ERA) on Sunday.

ODU leads the series, 85-55 and defeated the Rams two of three last year at the Diamond.

The Monarchs are led in hitting by freshman outfielder Josh Eldridge, the CAAPlayer of the Week at .314 with four triples. Senior shortstop Josh Wright is at.299 with six homers and 21 RBI along with 14 stolen bases. Josh Tutwiler is at.281 with six homers and 24 RBI. Senior firstbaseman Chris Baker leads the teamwith seven homers (Three of them grand slams) along with 36 RBI.

ODU is scheduled to start freshman Connor Overton on Friday (0-2/7.82 ERA), Ben Tomchick (2-4/5.07) on Saturday and freshman Greg Tomchick (1-2/5.34 ERA) onSunday.
