NORFOLK, VA-- The ODU Baseball Monarchs return home for a three-game CAA weekend against the Pride of Hofstra beginning Friday at 6 p.m. at the Bud Metheny BaseballComplex. ODU has partnered with the Salvation Army this weekend to sponsor a CannedFood Drive to help "Strike Out Hunger." Bring a can for donation and you will recieve free admission into the games.
Hofstra is currently tied with William & Mary and Towson for second with 4-2 CAArecords, after sweeping VCU last weekend at home.
Shortstop Dalton Rouleau is hitting .345 and rightfielder Danny Poma is at .403 with 20 RBI, followed by firstbaseman Jared Hammer with a .438 batting average with25 RBI. Hammer ranks 25th nationally in RBI.
The Pride under first year head coach John Russo are scheduled to throw David D'Errico (2-1/3.42) on Friday, John Tiedemann (2-2/6.65) on Saturday and Dave Jesch(2-0/3.68) on Sunday. All three are righthanders.
Joey Burney at .276.
Senior Chris Baker leads the team with four homers and 15 RBI, while Josh Wright has 11 RBI and three homers.
ODU is scheduled to throw Greg Tomchick (0-1/2.95) on Friday, Ben Tomchick (1-2/4.91) on Saturday and Phil McCarthy (0-2/5.32) on Sunday.
ODU leads the series with Hofstra, 16-9. Last year, the Pride took two of the three games in Hempstead, while ODU swept the Pride in three games during the 2010 season.
NOTE: Sunday will be NATA (National Athletic Trainers Association) appreciation day. Athletic Trainers with their NATA membership card will be admitted free.
