Monarchs Host UMASS In Three-Game Series Beginning Saturday

NORFOLK, VA-- The ODU Monarchs, winners of three straight host the Minutemen ofMassachussetts in a three-game non-conference series beginning Saturday at 2 p.m. inthe Bud Metheny Baseball complex. Sunday's game is also at 2 with Monday's third andfinal contest at 3 p.m.

UMass (1-3) is led by sophomore secondbaseman Ryan Cusick (.333), junior outfielder Rich Graef (.333) and junior outfielder Anthony Serino (.313/4 RBI). UMass is scheduled to throw Glen Misho (0-1) on Saturday, DennisTorres (0-1/1.17 ERA) on Sunday and Joe Popielarczyk (0-0/1.69) on Monday. All threeare righthanders.

ODU is scheduled to throw freshman Greg Tomchick (0-1/3.29) on Saturday, brotherBen Tomchick (0-2/5.49) on Sunday and Phil McCarthy (0-1/6.50) on Monday.

Secondbaseman Brandon Shelton continues to lead all regulars with a .323 batting average, followed by outfielder Shawn Sizemore at .320 along with nine RBI. Seniorcatcher Joey Burneyis at .298 with six runs scored and six RBI.

Senior 1b/rf Chris Baker leads the team with 15 RBI and four homers, followe byshortstop Josh Wright with three homers and nine RBI. Wright leads the team in runsscored with 16, followed by Baker with 11, then thirdbaseman Brent Frazier with nine.

ODU leads the series with UMass, 3-0, sweeping the 1995 series.
