ATLANTA, Ga. - Old Dominion University men's tennis dropped its season opener at No. 15 Georgia Tech 7-0 Friday evening in Atlanta.
The Monarchs fall to 0-1 on the year while No. 15 Georgia Tech opens at 1-0.
The Yellow Jackets opened the match claiming the doubles point, winning all three matches. At No. 1 doubles, Albert Ochagavia and Krzysztof Muzalewski gave the second ranked team in the nation of Kevin King and Juan Spir a tough match, before falling 8-5.
Ochagavia played solid at No. 2 singles, taking Juan Melian Puigventos to a tiebreaker in the first set before falling 7-6 (7-3). He fell in the second set 6-3 as GT clinched the team victory.
ODU had three newcomers compete in their first collegiate action, as freshman Carlos Lopez Villa played No. 3 singles and No. 3 doubles, Wesley Barrett competed at No. 5 singles and No. 3 doubles and Can Cetinel was at No. 6 singles and No. 2 doubles.
The Monarchs are back in action tomorrow when they take on Georgia State at 10 a.m.
