Lewis Becomes Seventh Member of 1,000 Rebound Club

Jan. 20, 2012

ATLANTA, Ga. - With her fifth rebound in the Lady Monarchs' 71-60 victory over Georgia State Thursday night, Old Dominion senior Tia Lewis pulled down her 1,000th career rebound.

Lewis joins elite company in ODU history, becoming just the seventh player in school history with 1,000 rebounds. Anne Donovan leads the group with 1,976 while Inge Nissen, Tracy Claxton, Nancy Lieberman, Celeste Hill, Kelly Lyons and now Lewis round out the group.

"It means a lot, rebounding is not something that you teach, its effort and having the will and hunger to go get the ball," Lewis said. "To be a part of this group is huge, those are the people that really started the tradition at ODU, its a great accomplishment for me."

A native of Poulan, Ga., Lewis was able to complete the accomplishment in her home state, and now has 1,003 career rebounds, just five shy and six away from passing Lyons for sixth all-time in school history. Lewis and the Lady Monarchs are back in action Sunday, when they take on UNCW at 2 p.m.
