CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Albert Ochagavia and Krsysztof Muzalewski continued their runs at the USTA/ITA Regional Championships, advancing to Sunday's round of 16.
Oxhagavia got the round of 16 starting with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Richmond's Aaron Wicker. He defeated No. 10 seed John Collins of Maryland 6-4, 6-4 in the second round and knocked off Penn State's Bryan Welnetz 6-2, 6-2 in the round of 32. Tomorrow morning he will face top seed Jarmere Jenkins of Virginia.
Muzalewski received a bye in the first round and cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Duquesne's Aram Abgaryan. In the round of 32 he defeated Virginia Tech's Hunter Koontz 6-2, 6-4. He faces No. 14 seed Vlad Stefan of Maryland tomorrow morning.
ODU also got a strong showing from their other starters, including Fahoum Fahoum, Alfredo Rodriguez and Carlos Lopez Villa.
Rodriguez opened the tournament with a strong 6-0, 7-5 win over Lafayette's Doug Gallagher. He fell in the second round to No. 3 seed Luka Somen.
Fahoum topped Penn State's Chris Young 6-4, 6-3 in the opener before falling to Sergio Wyss of Maryland 6-3, 6-2.
Lopez Villa came out with a strong 6-1, 6-1 win over Richmond's Ethan Dunbar, and in the second round fell in a tough three-setter to Maryland's Jesse Kiuru.
In doubles action Muzalewski and Ochagavia breezed to an 8-0 win before falling in the second round.
Lopez Villa and Fahoum cruised to an 8-2 win over Norfolk State. The pair hung in against No. 2 seed from Virginia Tech before falling 8-6.
