COLUMBUS, Ohio. - Senior Emma Batten scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season as the second-ranked Old Dominion field hockey team shutout Ohio State, 2-0, Sunday afternoon to win the Buckeye Classic.

The Lady Monarchs, who have not trailed in a game this season, improve to 6-0 on the year. ODU has outscored its opponents 21-5 thus far this season.

Old Dominion got on the board first in the 11th minute when freshman Lydia Velzian placed a shot on goal that was saved, but Batten handled the rebound and scored in front of the cage.

The Lady Monarchs increased their lead just before the half when senior Stephanie Kratzer netted her second goal of the season off a penalty corner shot.

Old Dominion remains on the road next week, traveling to the University of North Carolina and Duke. The matchup with the Tar Heels (5-0), scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m., could pit the top two teams in the rankings against each other.
